1. Sunday Suppers with Aran Goyoaga

Last weekend I was able to attend the Sunday Suppers photography workshop with Aran Goyoaga. We spent the day in Karen’s beautiful space in Brooklyn, eating, shooting, and meeting some great people.

  3. Agua de Límon

    Hot, Hot Heat

It’s been insanely hot for about the past week or so. We’ve given up on energy efficiency (that’s fancy lingo for the fact we’re cheap and using an A/C isn’t) and turned on the cool air. The heat has also made us get more creative with our hydration than water because, as it turns out, water gets boring, but aguas (flavored waters) are like manna from Heaven. Fresh juice, water, and a bit of sugar. Yesterday Matthew made a batch of agua de límon before dinner and my soul rejoiced.

The heat has also made me do other crazy things, like one day last week. I deleted my Google Reader. Or, more accurately, I emptied all of the subscriptions from my Reader. I know it’s nothing novel, and that plenty do so every day. But, if you’d be so kind, I’d love to tell you how great it feels. Ready? Okay.

    IT FEELS GREAT.

There, that’s it. The convenience of the whole operation was a big drive for my using it, but as it turns out, the Internet is a lot more than text. I whittled down the list of sites I frequent. And now I actually visit the sites, through an Internet browser. It’s like the world is beautiful again. I see websites, and I’m no longer a I’m-bored-check-my-Reader kind of person. So people of the world, join me. Life is good on the other side.

  4. Chorizo tacos and Coke, a staple dinner

I just returned home from a quick trip to the western U.S. to attend the wedding of one of my best friends. It was beautiful, and I am so glad I could make it.

And now I’m home, trying to adjust to the shock of warmth and humidity. By the looks of things, and the raise in temperature, I’d say summer is here again. Sweaty, sticky summer, and I couldn’t be more excited. It will hopefully be full of plenty of barbecues and visits to the city pool, and more taco dinners.

  5.

From last night’s dinner: tomatoes and oven fries

I’m still amazed how fast time goes by. It’s the oldest story in the book, but when you’re young each day drags by and every Christmas seems like a thousand years from the next. And now, well, now I sneeze and check the clock and three days have gone by.

Wasn’t it just last week I was bundling up against the cold winter and eating lots of warm soups? Now, despite the chilly spring rain, we’re creeping up on banned-oven days. You know the kind, the days that are too hot to even look at any source of heat for fear that your brain would surely melt. Those are the days you move as little as possible, retreating to a cool place to watch Friday Night Lights (Go Tim Riggins!).
